Market Updates For April 2016

April 30, 2016

Market Update

Throughout the years, our team has cultivated strong relationships in every facet of the produce industry – from growers and packers to wholesale suppliers, the foodservice industry, and retailers. These relationships have established a line of open, honest communication, which allows us to create educated market forecasts.

Every month, we post Market Updates on our LinkedIn company page, and at the end of each month, we share them here. Here are our Market Updates for the month of April:

Week of April 3, 2016 – April 9, 2016

The promotable value of avocados continues to drive demand as more than twice as many retailers are nationally featuring avocados compared to the same time last year. Ready high quality supplies from California and Mexico will reinforce purchase satisfaction and increase demand momentum going into the big Cinco de Mayo event.

Week of April 10, 2016 – April 16, 2016

Record avocado supplies from California and Mexico continue to deliver market stability at very promotable values as we near the next big merchandising event. Whether large or small, an appropriate price point can be tailored to fit almost any circumstance. Record movement is ahead over the next three weeks.

Week of April 17, 2016 – April 23, 2016

Market features stability with supply keeping pace with demand. Cinco de Mayo has been identified as a 2 weeklong promotion opportunity and will keep the market stable. This gives Mexico and California ample time to gear up for the highly anticipated event.

Week of April 24, 2016 – April 30, 2016

The process of positioning fruit for the Cinco event is in full swing and includes some dislocation as to select origin and size. Although overall supplies remain more than adequate, the level of activity over this week and next will strain short-term industry capability. Accordingly, trading values have increased and markets feature a much firmer tone then in the last few months. Moving forward, prospects beyond the promotional event are likely to return to a more balanced pattern.
