Who We Are
20 Years Of Excellence: The Stonehill Produce Story
It was a bright sunny day on Southern California’s shimmering coast and Keith Slattery was contemplating his future. The year was 1998 and little did he know that Stonehill Produce would be born right then in his small apartment on Stonehill Drive in Dana Point, California.
It didn’t take long for Keith to build a successful company. Today, 20 years later, Stonehill Produce is the leading importer of Mexican avocados into America with over 100 MILLION avocados landing every year. That first 20 years was Stonehill 1.0.
As the industry experienced rapid growth over the past decade, it became clear that Mexican avocado transactions were increasingly being driven by market-based analytics. It’s the fresh produce version of MoneyBall!
Stonehill jumped on that wave in the very beginning and stands today as the premier knowledge leader in the Mexican avocado industry — the “go-to” source for the most valuable information from the field in Mexico and the markets in the U.S.
We’re not simply trying to sell a product; we’re trying to strengthen the produce industry and advance our customers’ best interests. We’re passionate about what we do, we believe in a strong work ethic, and we love sharing the knowledge we’ve gained to help our customers reach their goals.
When you spend decades committed to understanding an industry, you naturally build strong relationships with others who are doing the same thing. That’s why our grower and packer partners in Mexico are such strong allies. And it’s the reason why we have developed open and transparent communication with professionals in every facet of the produce industry.
With 20+ years of experience, we are knowledgable about everything from the seasonal changes in oil content to proper handling and ripening procedures. We’re constantly analyzing sales volume and import data to fully understand the impact those numbers have on the market: both what’s happening today, and what lies ahead.

Our Pathway to Stonehill Produce 2.0
CEO & FounderKeith believes in building a positive work environment and company culture that allows its team members to thrive. This philosophy came from his strong belief in maintaining a “lifestyle career” that started when he founded Stonehill Produce in 1998. His commitment to the very highest standards—while never sacrificing the company culture–has helped Stonehill become one of the most successful produce importers in the U.S. Keith got his start in the produce business after graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with an agriculture business degree and then working in the citrus industry with Sunkist Growers and Don Bonano Citrus Company. After launching Stonehill, Hass avocados quickly became his singular focus and area of expertise, and his company earned a reputation for honesty, integrity and hard work. Keith is passionate about feeding the world — no short-cuts, no antics, just delicious produce, grown right. When he’s not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, with whom he shares his love of surfing.
General ManagerWhen Dave entered the food industry more than 20 years ago, he started using the items he worked with in his love of cooking. His range of recipes reflects his experience — Mediterranean and Indian cuisine using the beans, peas and lentils from his days running an agricultural cooperative; and pickling from his time heading the nation’s largest vinegar business. Dave came to Stonehill in 2013 to manage the company’s operations and lead its growth initiatives. An expert on change management and growth strategies, Dave was on the front lines when Mexican avocados transitioned from limited to full U.S. market access. That involvement continues today as the explosive sales growth of Mexican avocados satisfies more and more consumers. Of course his family’s dining table features avocados prominently in many of its dishes.
Sales Manager, Business Development (California)Peter joined the company with a successful background in sales and a dedication to helping others. He is an astute listener, always striving to identify what people need, and then following through to deliver first-class service and maximum customer value. It’s a perfect fit for Stonehill, where he makes sure the company’s grower and handler partners support its retail, wholesale, and foodservice customers with the high-quality produce they need — on time, in the right quantity, and at the best price. Peter’s love of sports—basketball, golf, and football to name a few—fuels his competitive drive which he uses in his work at Stonehill. Outside the office Peter values time with his wife, family, and friends.
Administrative Sales AssistantAshley joined Stonehill to support the sales team with all purchasing, receiving, and border passings. With a background in purchasing and management, combined with her passion for customer service, she was eager to join the Stonehill team and grow with the company. Ashley aspires to be a salesperson at Stonehill one day, but right now she is hands-on with vendors to serve them with world-class support possible and along the way learn everything she can about the Mexican avocado deal. When she is not working, you can find Ashley enjoying time with her family at car shows, the beach, and eating avocado toast.
AccountantWhen Stacy started working at Stonehill Produce in 2000, the company was two years old and imported about 70,000 avocados a day. Today, volume is up to 400,000 a day, the company has offices in two states, and Stonehill is one of the most successful produce importers in the nation. As Stonehill’s in-house accountant, Stacy has been instrumental in developing the systems and processes that have helped the company manage its growth — from HR and administration duties to order-tracking software and billing procedures. She makes sure the business systems run smoothly so the sales team can focus on moving Mexican avocados from the field and into the market.
AccountantCari joined the Stonehill team to provide accounting and administrative management support. With an accounting degree from Washington State University and nearly 25 years of accounting experience, she is responsible for collecting, tracking, inputting, and communicating customer and vendor information. In addition, Cari examines statements to ensure accuracy; organizes and maintains financial records; improves business efficiency; makes best-practice recommendations; and keeps all accounting information up to date. When not working, she enjoys raising her two daughters, reading, and spending time at the beach with her family.
Sales Manager, Business Development (Texas)Before joining Stonehill Produce, Joaquin owned and operated his own company specializing in avocado imports. He learned about the fruit from its beginnings as a seed, to harvest and on to the final sale by spending time in Mexico’s Michoacán state, the world’s leading region for avocado production. His understanding of the avocado and familiarity with the Mexican avocado industry’s growing regions makes him the perfect person to support and expand Stonehill’s relationships with growers and packers in Mexico, and pursue new business opportunities for the company. When he’s home in Texas, Joaquin enjoys spending time at his family’s ranch where he works with cattle and horseback riding on the weekend, and on the weekdays he and his wife spend time competing in the American Pool players Association, the worlds largest amateur pool league.
Avocado Category ManagerEduardo joined the Stonehill team to manage the company’s Avocado Category Management Program. In that role, he oversees all Communications, Digital Marketing, Category Analysis, and Stonehill’s flagship program: 360o Knowledge Generator. Prior to joining Stonehill, Eduardo represented The Association of Producers, Packers and Exporters of Avocado in Mexico (APEAM) for five years where he served as a reliable and efficient communication bridge for the 25 largest importers; 80 packers; and 25,000 producers. From that experience, he developed deep insights on both sides of the border. Before his position with APEAM, Eduardo worked for leading companies like Heineken and Telmex. Born and educated in Monterrey, Mexico, Eduardo’s time away from avocados is spent with family, golf, fishing and cycling.
