Throughout the years, our team has cultivated strong relationships in every facet of the produce industry – from growers and packers to wholesale suppliers, the foodservice industry, and retailers. These relationships have established a line of open, honest communication, which allows us to create educated market forecasts.
Every month, we post Market Updates on our LinkedIn company page, and at the end of each month, we share them here. Here are our Market Updates for the month of March:
Week of February 28, 2016 – March 5, 2016
Demand for Large Fruit seems steady with limited supply at the border. Small fruit and #2’s continue to struggle with aged fruit being offered on consignment. California starting to harvest and could hold prices down. Will have to see if the industry will be able to consume 47-50 million pounds over the next week.
Week of March 6, 2016 – March 12, 2016
The California Harvest is under way and, with Mexico’s strong and steady supply, record supplies are available to meet fast-growing demand. In addition, the two primary origins together provide normal size distribution, which offers the potential for more fluid trading.
Week of March 27, 2016 – April 2, 2016
Post-holiday demand is expected to take off as avocado promotion activities return to retail and cycle through to a big Cinco de Mayo celebration. California and Mexico supplies are well positioned to meet what many consider will be another record-setting event.
